Abstract

OBJECTIVE:

Know and understand the concepts of digital native, digital divide and viral video.

INTRODUCTION:

The technological advances and access to them of the so-called digital natives, have created a new way of life created around the digital, they use the media and their contacts mainly through social networks to interact and share videos that in an effect of massive diffusion and countless number of visualizations, have created a new effect called viral video; out of these concepts finds another generation included in what can be defined as digital divide.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK:

The viral video:

The dissemination of videos on the network aims to achieve the greatest possible number of views. In this sense, «the application of the concept of virality […] has found in online video one of its best tools» (Dafonte, 2015). Here the so-called viralization effect comes into play, which «develops the concept of» media virus «as that content or piece of information that expands through networks» infecting «them […] camouflaged behind an informative or entertaining appearance ( Dafonte, 2015). These effects are thanks to the platforms that make them possible, so that «get on the road of a behavior that begins spontaneously among users and to which fundamentally contribute video platforms such as YouTube» (Dafonte, 2015).

Digital natives:

Those people born together with new technologies, has generated a new term known as digital native:

[…] coined by Mark Prensky […] is already part of the collective imagination of our society, when designating those population groups (essentially young and adolescents) that have grown up in a digital technological framework (computers, Internet, mobile phones, MP3. ..) and whose uses and abilities […] are completely naturalized. (Gertrudix, 2009)

These new generations have adopted social networks and new technologies as their own, «[…] they were born in the digital era and are permanent users of technologies with an accomplished skill». (García and Portillo, 2007).

Digital divide:

The digital environment has developed in a world parallel to progress and access to new technologies, but has caused what is known as the digital divide «can be defined in terms of the inequality of possibilities that exist to access information, knowledge and education through new technologies. » (Almenara 2004).

SAMPLE, METHODOLOGY AND RESULTS:

The methodology used will be the quantitative one. The sample chosen is data from the INE and a viralized video. The results data of the most viralized video in the history of Facebook «Blossom», seen 350 million times and shared by 10 million people and data from the Spanish INE of men, women and age groups from 2012 to 2017 who use the Internet.

CONCLUSIONS:

The conclusions will give us very interesting and illuminating data of how the different Spanish generations have behaved in the use of new technologies.
