Abstract

The presence of the masculine voice in the automotive spots is being very widespread. You can count with your fingers the few announcements that have been narrated by female voices, and even less those where women have a main role.

The automotive sector seems to be very exclusive to the female sex, focusing solely on men. This research aims to analyze if the majority use of male narrators is a tool more at the service of advertising or is a way of reinforcing the underlying machismo.

Through non-verbal communication and, more specifically, paralanguage, we try to deal with this hypothesis. With the help of a fieldwork survey, the public is approached with the objective of knowing the opinion of the population.

It is observed that much of the society doesn´t pay much attention to the voices that promote the vehicles but, although they are gone unnoticed, they have great consequences in the receiver.

Thanks to this study we want to get people to question some of the practices of current advertising and set a more critical view of it. Advertising has enormous potential to transform the social spectrum and to shape the thinking of individuals, so we try to provide a study perspective that show the wrong features of the automotive sector.
